Environmental Care:
Our desire is to tread lightly on our land. There was only one tree on the 20 hectare property when purchased. There were very few native birds and no earthworms! In 6 years we have planted over 650 native and ornamental trees and shrubs and the frequency of sightings and diversity of birdlife is increasing. Lawns are special water-wise blends. Irrigation of the vineyard and gardens is usually programmed to take place at night. Vineyard soil moisture is monitored at 3 levels (300mm, 600mm & 900mm). Garden construction and care has been organic (apart from weed control) and insecticides in the vineyard are avoided. All gardens are mulched and a straw mulch was used in the vineyard to retain moisture, increase organic matter and retard weed growth.
